Social Media is constantly evolving and changing. Facebook have just rolled out the Timeline. Google + have just released Plus Pages. Read on to discover what has recently changed on social media and what it means to you and your business.
2011 was a big year for Social Media. 2012 is shaping up to be even bigger.
Read on to see a full timeline of the notable moments on social media in 2011.
Are you ready? Have you incorporated the use of social media into your business marketing strategy? If not, why not?
Savvy business owners know that a solid online strategy for tapping into your target market using social networking platforms is no longer something you do when you have time. It now needs to be key to your overall marketing efforts.
Facebook rolled out the Timeline to all users in December 2011 and still enjoys the largest user base with 800 million users. In fact, one in nine people on Earth is on Facebook and on average, each user spends 15 hours and 33 minutes a month on the site.
That, is huge. One in nine on the planet. If you have not already, now is the time to look at integrating Facebook into your business and website. Ever “Liked” a website you’ve visited? Now you can “Subscribe” to someone on Facebook too in exactly the same way – Facebook made that change late in 2011.
Think about it – anyone visiting your website can, in a single click, now follow your public updates on Facebook AND all their friends can see that they now follow you. Gives the “know, like, trust” concept an entirely new meaning doesn’t it?
Google also launched Google+ in 2011 and in just over six months they have 62 million users. In fact, Google+ was the fastest social network to reach 10 million users at just 16 days (Twitter took 780 days and Facebook took 852 days).
With Google recently announcing they are totally changing the way that search results will be delivered, it’s now more important than ever before to make sure that your business has a “social” face.
Google are now going to return results with a focus on YOU – Search, plus Your World, making who you have connected with online more valuable (and vital) than ever. In a nutshell, the more people that you are connected with on social media, the wider your reach to get in front of them when they do a simple search online.
Social networking is now a way of doing business. We’ve reached the point where if you want your business to be found online, you need to make sure that you have a prominent social media presence.
Not only that, you need to ensure that the message you convey on each social media platform matches your brand and is consistent with your direction for 2012. Do you know? What exactly is the digital footprint that you are leaving out there on the internet?

A Clear Idea of What to Do Next and How to Do It
“I had a lot of questions about how to link my social media strategy with my website to make it work more effectively. Wendy was incredibly generous with her time and went through each of my questions in turn, covering facebook fan pages, calls to action articles, newsletter systems, Google + and how to link my blog. She walked me through the practical steps while we were both logged into my website.
She answered my questions simply in a way I could understand and gave me feedback on what I was doing right. At the end of the [call in day] call I had a clear idea of what to do next and how to do it. Thanks so much Wendy.”
